MooreBots Compete in FLL West TN Regional Championship

The MooreBots, our varsity robotics team,  competed in the FLL (First Lego League) West Tennessee Regional Championship in Memphis.  We are proud to announce that out of the competing 48 teams, they placed first in Programming and fifth in the Robot Rounds!!  Being a part of the FLL allows children to be immersed in real-world science and technology challenges.  Teams design their own solution to a current scientific problem and build autonomous LEGO robots that perform a series of missions.  Through their participation, the children gain valuable life skills and discover exciting career possibilities while learning that they can make a positive contribution to society.

Common Sense, the national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids and families thrive in a world of digital media and technology, has recognized Moore Magnet Elementary as a Common Sense Certified School: Digital Citizenship. Moore Magnet has demonstrated its commitment to taking a whole-community approach to preparing its students to use the immense power of digital media to explore, create, connect, and learn, while limiting the perils that exist in the online realm, such as plagiarism, loss of privacy, and cyberbullying. Moore Magnet has been using Common Sense Education’s innovative and research-based digital citizenship resources, which were created in collaboration with Dr. Howard Gardner of the GoodPlay Project at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The resources teach students, educators, and parents tangible skills related to Internet safety, protecting online reputations and personal privacy, managing online relationships, and respecting creative copyright.
